Skippered Yacht Charters

A skippered yacht charter is a situation by which you rent a yacht and pay for an experienced skipper to accompany you onboard.  It is important to understand that your skipper will only do what his or her title suggests: skipper the yacht.  If you want your food to be made for you as you sail then you will also need a cook, often referred to as a host or hostess.  If you want specialist guiding, then either you will need a multi-tasking skipper who knows more than how to operate a yacht, or you will need an additional specialist crew member.

Skippered yacht charters are ideal for people used to sailing but lack the confidence or local knowledge to go bareboat.  A skipper with local knowledge will not only be able to help you navigate safely in often difficult reef or sea conditions, but take you to some of the most choice locations which pilot books and charts just will not know.

Typical situations where a skippered charter is essential would be in the outer islands of the Seychelles.  These include the remote coral islands of the Amirantes where navigation is too challenging and remote to make bareboating a realistic option.  Aldabra atoll to the far south west is a superb place to sail, but as the existence of 300,000 Giant Tortoises lays testament to the fact that for centuries this has been simply beyond the range of most sailing expeditions.

Aqua-Firma can often provide specialist crew and equipment to make your skippered yacht charters more fulfilling.  For divers we can provide diving compressors, dive masters and even marine scientists.  We can also provide specialist natural history and bird watching guides.
