 MALAYSIA & BORNEO
(incorporating South West Thailand)

Tropical islands, coral reefs, the planet’s oldest rainforests; wildlife which includes gibbons, elephants, tigers, orang utans, hornbills; the World’s only flying monkey; and the highest diversity of trees in a single hectare …. Malaysia and northern Borneo are inspiring places to visit for their spectacular Waters, Wilderness and Wildlife.  After years of living, working, sailing and diving in this part of the World, we have combined our favourite ingredients and added one of South East Asia’s most elegant sailing yachts to create and an unforgettable series of experiences.

Included in this geographic section are Thailand’s most pristine islands and coral reefs, hidden in the little known southern end of the Andaman Sea close to Malaysia’s Langkawi Island.  Whereas the famous Phi Phi Island has long lost the hidden qualities that made it the subject of the film, The Beach, most of the islands of the Ko Tarutao National Marine Park remain in quiet and untouched.  A yacht or sea canoe really are the only ways to explore these uninhabited islands with their blue waters, excellent coral reefs, limestone pinnacles, cave systems and rich island rainforest habitats.

Only recently opened to the public, the flooded lake system of the Royal Belum National Park provides some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities in Peninsular Malaysia including elephants, hornbills, colugos and gibbons.  Here we can provide you with a behind the scenes introduction to the Malaysian Nature Society’s Hornbill Research and Conservation programme.  Your visit will also help us to contribute to their work and provide you with free membership of the organisation.

Borneo is home to the diverse ecosystem of the Kinabatangan floodplain, with its opportunities to observe Proboscis Monkeys and Orang Utans. The island still contains rich rainforests including the Danum Valley, the largest expanse of  virgin lowland forest in Sabah, and the remote wilderness of the Maliau Basin.   Beyond the shoreline, Borneo can be credited as having one of the World’s best known underwater locations at Sipadan and the Semporna Islands.

Within the experiences we have developed in this part of the world, you will have the opportunity to develop a heightened understanding of wilderness and nature.
