Kruger National Park Wildlife Safaris

Kruger Wildlife & Blyde River Photography Safari
(1190 15 - 19 April)

South Africa is a country with a huge variety of wildlife, marine life, legendary surf and sand, history, culture and vast wilderness scenery. With so much to choose between, we offer a combination of tailor made travel and small group experiences, led by our team of South African residents past and present, marine, conservation and photography experts.

Of South Africa's game reserves, the Kruger National Park is by far the largest, covering 7,523 square miles. It was established in 1895 as a reserve to protect game from over exploitation by Hemmingway styled 'Great White Hunters'. Hunting is now the preserve of some very expensive private game reserves, whilst the Kruger is a national park. Wildlife concentrations are high with all the 'big five': elephants, rhino, lions, buffalo and hippos. White rhino are best seen further south in Natal Province's Hluhluwe Reserve. This is South Africa's oldest reserve - a short drive away from the lovely Mkuze Reserve and St Lucia Wetlands Reserve.

South Africa's huge coastline ranges from the coastal dune forests and warm tropical waters of Sodwana and Rocktail Bay; to the Southern Cape where the cold Humboldt Current from Antarctica, rich in plankton, attracts large numbers of Southern Right whales and other marine life. In between, we find some of the world's best opportunities for encounters with sharks, of which we focus on diving with Ragged Tooth Sharks ('raggies'), Black Tips and Hammerheads at Aliwal Shoal. We can also find giant pods of dolphins off of Natal Province so large it's impossible to count how many hundred of them you can see. And perhaps the ultimate for divers is the elusive Sardine Run whose bait balls provided some of the most memorable footage in the BBC's Blue Planet series.

South Africa is also home to one of the world's most incredible botanical spectacles: the flower blooms of Namaqualand. This wild meadow grassland scenery is just part of the country's scenic diversity, which ranges from mid altitude bushveld savannah, to the wild coastlines of the Titsikama Trail, table top mountains and the Drakensburg Range which borders Losotho.

History has left an indelible mark on South Africa. You can see a different reality by visiting townships such as Soweto; enjoy the energetic dance performances of Zulus in Natal; discover how click letters make up part of the Xhosa language; and enjoy the sporting culture of rugby, cricket and football - the World Cup 2010 sound of vuvuzelas included.

Something else you can enjoy is South Africa's ability to make you feel incredibly comfortable. Climate is one aspect of this; but so too is the style and comfort provided by its our selected savannah and coastal lodges; colonial style country mansions; the famous Blue Train which travels from Cape Town to Pretoria or a sumptuous lunch in a vineyard in Stellenbosch winelands.

From self drive, to diving and guided walking safaris, call us to discuss your ideal journey to South Africa.
