Tanzania offers a unique combination of some of East Africa's most inspiring Indian Ocean islands and the continent's largest inland wilderness areas.  The waters off Pemba, Mafia, Chumbe and Mnemba islands in particular offer some stunning coastlines and beaches with world class diving and snorkelling.

The northern game reserves of the Serengeti, Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater are probably the best known of Tanzania's wildlife highlights.  These areas have resident game throughout the year, but the Serengeti is particularly well stocked between December and July when the world's largest mammal migration brings literally millions of animals south to its rich grazing lands from the Masai Mara Reserve in Kenya.

The ancient spice island of Zanzibar is the gateway to Tanzania's Indian Ocean islands, and an easy set off point to the country's largest wilderness areas: the Selous and Ruaha.  These reserves receive far fewer visitors than those in northern Tanzania, but harbour dense populations of big game including lions, hippos, elephants and tree climbing leopards.  Game viewing is particularly good along the Selous and Ruaha rivers, and the Mkata Floodplain in the Mikuni Reserve.

Out in the far west of the country lies Lake Tanganyika - a freshwater competitor to Africa's east coast where you can also find crystal clear waters, sailing dhows, perfect sand beaches and more than 300 species of aquarium cichlid fish.  All this against a backdrop of the forest covered Mahale Mountains National Park where you can track habituated groups of chimpanzees and nine other species of monkey.

We offer tailor made experiences throughout the country with a special focus on what we consider to be some of the greatest waterside and wildlife experiences available.  We do this through our selection of wilderness riverside and coastal lodges, sailing and dive yachts, and 'Out of Africa' mobile fly camps set up in remote locations amongst Africa's wildlife.

One of our most highly recommended locations in Tanzania is the stunning Chumbe Island marine and forest reserve.  Chumbe lies 6 miles off the Zanzibar coast and through careful management, this island has retained pristine coral gardens and avoided damage from dynamite fishing that has destroyed so many of East Africa's reefs.  Chumbe is also covered in a rare rag forest which is home to the world's largest crab (the Cconut Crab) and the endangered Ader's Duiker.
