If you want a truly close encounter with Ocean Giants you can't do better our remote safari in the San Ignacio lagoon on Mexico's Pacific Coast. Every morning we'll head to a Grey Whale 'nursery lagoon' where thousands of Grey Whales gather from January to April. This is world renowned location that Grey Whales return to year after year to give birth to their calves and nurture them through the risky early stages of their lives. The Grey Whales here are incredibly tolerant of humans and boats and it's not unusual to have huge Grey Whale mothers and young curious calves approaching our boats to a do little 'human watching' to enliven cetacean playtime. Some whales even enjoy a friendly rub from their new found friends.
This experience is based at a coastal desert beach camp in comfortable cabañas. Following an introduction to the camp on your first day you'll be able to join two guided small boat rides out into the lagoon to make contact with the whales. When you're not out in the lagoon with the whales you are free to enjoy the camps beautiful beach. The lagoon itself is part of Latin America's largest biosphere reserve, the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve covering an area of land and sea almost the size of Britain. Away from the coast the harsh Vizcaino desert takes over - a tough but fascinating environment which provides huge interest for naturalists and lovers of wild landscapes. This is a land of wild pronghorn antelope and coyotes. Expert naturalist guides are on hand and will give talks on the natural history of the desert here as well as the whales. Come the nightfall you'll be lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves and clear desert skies filled with stars. After 4 nights of whale company at San Ignacio it's easy to add further kayaking and snorkelling adventures within the Sea of Cortez. If you are a keen diver then Jan - April is the perfect time to join one of our liveaboard trips to the remote Revillagigedo Islands, or Socorro as they are more commonly referred to. Here we can enjoy probably the best opportunities anywhere on the Planet to swim with Giant Manta Rays. Baja California, a rugged finger of wild and mountainous desert land plays host to some the world's most spectacular marine environments with the sheltered Sea of Cortez to the east, and the vast Pacific to the West offer a one of the planets richest marine areas. This is particularly true when it comes especially it comes to marine mammals.
