Komodo Island National Park's diving is world renowned for its variety of dive sites and diving conditions; incorporating the very best of reef and macro diving, as well as the odd passer by such as a hammerhead shark or manta ray. On land the islands rugged hills and spectacular scenery provide the best habitat for encounters with the world's largest lizard, the Komodo Dragon which reaches 3 meters long and weigh's up to 150kg. Every one of our dive liveaboard trips includes a land visit to see Komodo's most famous inhabitant.

The Diving
Diving in the Komodo National Park can be divided into two areas. The North provides warm shallow reef dives with over 1,000 species of fish and 260 species of colourful reef building corals. The South is a wilder affair with strong sweeping ocean currents and deep blue drop offs creating perfect conditions for plankton feeders such as manta rays. The islands also attract 14 species of whale as well as the odd dugong, sun fish and pod of dolphins. All in all, Komodo offers the 3 main elements to any excellent dive location all in one area; great reef diving, muck diving and large passing pelagics.
The spectacular reefs in particular offer the diver or snorkeler a unique perspective into the lives of the resident reef fish through their daily struggle for territory and survival from predators. Pygmy seahorses are a particular highlight but you will have to look carefully as they are extremely well camouflaged seeming to appear as one with there coral home. This is macro diving at its finest with gorgonian corals, sea anemones and new invertebrates to be found in every nook and cranny making it a great location for the amateur or professional photographer. Enthusiasts will also enjoy the sponges and sea squirts not to mention the patient frog fish waiting for a fish to take its lure.
Diving Conditions in Komodo
Whilst diving conditions in Komodo can be quite relaxed, tides and weather conditions can also make them challenging. Currents can reach 8 knots and twist and turn to make washing machine like conditions which spin you around. The best diving takes place between 5 - 40m with visibility ranging from 5 - 30m. Due to the strong currents we recommend divers be of intermediate to advanced standard. Komodo is not appropriate for beginner divers. Water temperatures range from 20-27°C seasonally and by location due to thermoclines.
Itinerary
Komodo Sailing Yacht: Option A
This 'schooner style' yacht carries just 12 guests in 6 air conditioned, en-suite cabins. She is comfortably furnished with an air conditioned lounge and the teak upper decks are equipped with sunbeds and dining area. All diving is done from two large RIBs. She will travel using a combination of both motor and sails (weather permitting).
Day 1: Embark in Labuan Bajo
You will embark in Labuan Bajo (on Komodo Island) this afternoon
Days 2 - 7: Diving in Komodo National Park
You will spend these days exploring the central and southern sections of Komodo National Park
Dive sites can include: Castle Rock, the manta cleaning stations in Makasar Reef and Manta Alley, Torpedo Alley and Secret Garden
Day 8: Disembark in Labuan Bajo
You will disembark this morning for your onward travel arrangements
Komodo Motor Yacht: Option A
This luxurious liveaboard carries just 15 guests in comfortable cabins. A purpose built dive deck provides a wide platform, two exit ladders and fresh water showers. Onboard you will find the restaurant which has large windows, saloon with extensive library, a shaded outdoor seating area and sundeck with cushioned sun beds.
Day 1: Embark in Bali
You will embark in Bali this afternoon and cruise overnight to the north west coast of Sumbawa
Day 2: Noyo Island
You will begin diving this morning, followed by a visit to a local village. After a night dive, you will reposition to Sangeang Volcano
Day 3: Nusa Tenggara
Dive the interesting and unique marine life around Sangeang Volanco
Days 4 - 8: Komodo National Park
Begin diving in Komodo National Park. You will have the opportunity to walk in search of Komodo Dragons during your time here
Day 9: Returning to Bali
Begin your journey back to Bali with two final dives around Moyo Island

Komodo Motor Yacht: Option B
This comfortable liveaboard carries 16 guests in 9 cabins. Onboard you will find a wide stern dive platform with two exit ladders and fresh water showers, a huge dive deck with individual gear storage boxes and camera table. The spacious saloon is well equipped with large windows, a bar with tea and coffee facilities and entertainment area including a library with a wide selection of marine life books, there is also a separate dining area and two sundecks.
