Peninsula Malaysia  - Sedim & Royal Belum National Park

Only recently opened to the public, the flooded lake system of the Royal Belum National Park provides some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities in Peninsular Malaysia including elephants, hornbills, colugos and gibbons.  One of Malaysias top natural history guides will  provide you with a behind the scenes introduction to the ecology of the area and the Malaysian Nature Society’s Hornbill Research and Conservation programme.

(This  5 day itinerary can be selected as an optional extension to several of the experiences for Malaysia and Borneo)

Prices: from £590 per person based upon twin share rooms and 2 nights 'fly camping' at an Orang Asli community.

Includes: all accommodation; transfers; guiding; meals.  These prices are subject to availability of the accommodation proposed and seasonal pricing variations.

Activity Level: Medium to low depending upon personal preference.

Standard of Accommodation: Comfortable hotels and fully catered camping.

Proposed Itinerary

Day 1 
Starting at the Kedah we travel overland to Banding Island Resort, gateway to Royal Belum Park.
Afternoon drive into the forest.

Days 2-4 
Visit the islands and rainforests of the Royal Belum NP led by one of
our expert guides. Experience indigenous Orang Asli lifestyle with 2 nights 'fly camping' with one of the communities.  Visit the MNS camp and receive a detailed explanation of their hornbill research, conservation issues in this part of Malaysia & behaviour of different species that exist in Belum.  If you wish, you may spend a ½ day assisting the Malaysian Nature Society with their bird surveys.

Day 4
pm Transfer back to the Banding Island Resort.

Day 5 
Transfer early to the Sedim Canopy Walkway for trekking through the
forest and above the river.  Your guide will provide further introductions to rainforest ecology, birdlife, wildlife, medicinal plants of the forest.
pm return transfer to Kedah mainland.
