Private Wilderness Yacht & Lodge Safari

This is a private voyage through the tropical islands, coral reefs and rainforests of the South Andaman Sea. Starting at the upscale Andaman Hotel in Langkawi, your expert guide will provide an insight into the natural history of  Langkawi's forests, caves and mangroves.  Next, board the elegant sailing yacht Stardust to explore Ko Tarutao National Marine Park, one of the most pristine and beautiful coastal areas of Thailand.

Price:
From £1,360 per person for 4 - 8 persons based upon twin share rooms.  From £1,920 for 2 persons based upon twin share rooms.

This is a private yacht-based safari so your yacht will not be shared with anyone else except the crew and skipper. You will have an expert naturalist guide during your stay on Langkawi.  For this guide to accompany you on your 5 day voyage add £125 per day for the group.

Includes:
All accommodation; sailing including fuel costs; transfers; guiding; all meals onboard your yacht; breakfasts in your hotel in Langkawi.  These prices are subject to availability of the hotel accommodation proposed.  The price for the yachting element  will only increase during the 2006 high season (14th Dec 2006 - 28th Feb 2007) by an additional £210 per person based upon 4 persons or more travelling.  For 2 persons this seasonal surcharge will be doubled.

Excludes: international flights and insurance or any cruising costs in Thailand such as visas, park fees or landing fees.
 
Seasonality: This trip is available throughout the year, but between 15th May to 30th July and all of September sailing is restricted to Malaysian waters due to prevailing sea conditions for these periods.

Activity Level: Medium to low depending upon personal preference.

Standard of Accommodation: Five star hotel in Langkawi and comfortable sailing yacht.  Stardust  is a traditionally built wooden sailing yacht with excellent deck space.  There is no air conditioning but you will be cooled by natural sea breezes.

Flight Advice:- Flights between Europe and Malaysia are usually overnight so you will need to expect to be away on this trip for two more days than the number quoted in the itineraries.


Proposed Itinerary

Day 1
Ar Langkawi (this will require an overnight flight from Europe)
Transfer to Andaman Hotel.

Days 2 & 3
Explore with one of our expert guides the rainforests caves and
mangroves of Langkawi Island with opportunities to observe the hornbills and colugos (flying monkeys) and ancient stunted cycads trees found on Langkawi's limestone pinnacles.

Day 3
Board the sailing yacht Stardust.  Anchor in quiet anchorage off of
Langkawi.

Day 4
Explore Langkawi under sail.

Days 5 - 7 
Sail among the islands of the Tarutao National Marine Park in South
Western Thailand.

Day 8  
Explore Langkawi and its neighbouring islands under sail and return to
the Andaman Hotel.

Day 9  
Dep Langkawi.

Proposed extensions

Wildlife of Borneo's Rainforests, Rivers and Islands 
Extend your journey starting with a visit to the Green Turtle sanctuary at Sabah's Turtle Island National Park.  Explore the wildlife of the Kinabatangan Flood Plain borne of Sabah's longest river, rich in wildlife such as the Proboscis Monkey, Asian Elephants.  It is also the site of an Orang Utan rehabilitation sanctuary.  Then visit the the Danum Valley Forest Research and Conservation Area where the Segama River flows through Sabah's largest expanse of virgin jungle.

Peninsula Malaysia extension - Sedim & Royal Belum National Park 
'Fly camp' at an indigenous Orang Asli village, stake out a salt lick, visit the Malaysian Nature Society's Hornbill Research Project, and explore the World's longest rainforest canopy walkway.  This extension is led by one of our expert naturalist guides to explore the rainforests surrounding the 150 km2 Belum Lake.  Royal Belum was only recently gazetted as a national park after scientists found it to have the greatest concentrations of hornbills anywhere on earth, as well as elephants, tigers, otters, civet cats, gibbons and a host of new species of plants and animals.
