Day 1
Arrive Evenes airport (also called Harstad / Narvik).
Transfer by airport bus to the harbour of Lødingen.
Board the ship at any time during the day.
Day 2 & 3
We will spend two days in the Tysfjord area in search of groups of Orcas which hunt in these fjords for herring. There will also be time for an excursion to Leiknes to see some Stone Age petroglyphs depicting Orcas. At Skarvberget we will climb a hill, which is a look-out post for White Tailed Sea Eagles which can be observed feeding on the by-catch of herring in the fjord. These eagles are attracted to this area by the specialised hunting techniques of the orcas. One evening we will visit an Orca information centre for a more detailed insight into these marine mammals.
Day 4
Today we sail into Vestfjord, which separates the Lofoten Islands from the Norwegian mainland. Land at Skrover Island with the option to climb its modest peak for commanding views of the archiplelago. There are also excellent coastal treks here to sights which include a breeding area for White Tailed Sea Eagles, 9,000 year old rock paintings and good vantage points from which to observe the Aurora borealis. We arrive at Henningsvaer which, with its scattered island and islets, unique architecture and clear blue waters, is known locally as the Venice of Norway. We moor here overnight.
Day 5
We visit Kabelvaag, a cozy historical town, where we may visit the Lofoten Islands Aquarium and Museum. Later we sail into Trollfjord Raftsund, said to one of the most spectacular fjords of Norway. Overnight moored amongst the islands e.g. at the island of Tramoya.
Day 6
We work our way back to across Vestfjorden, looking for Orcas, mooring at Korsnes. This is another good place from which to observer the Northern Lights. We could visit Hamaroy with the Knut Hamsun Museum, or Ofotfjord, where we may spot orcas.
Day 7
We spend part the day looking for Orcas in Tysfjord before later returning to the harbour of Lødingen.
Day 8
In the morning we disembark at Lødingen for our transfer by scheduled local bus (at own expense) to the airport of Evenes.
